About
Murray Levine is a volunteer fundraiser and fund-raising activist.
Ideas that he has had have raised far more than $2 billion for charities around the world, since 1987.
Murray got his fund-raising start in the longest x-c ski marathon in the world. He felt that it would be a shame to ski 170 km for nothing so he raised $$ for the benefit of the cancer/leukemia ward at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
At present, one organization that is involved with over 3,000 athletic events in the US is working to employ Murray’s concept for such events, in all 3,000+ of them. Once that materializes it would be the largest continuing fund-raising effort in the world.
Since 1992 Murray has been trying to have the participants of Velo Quebec’s events invited to raise $$ directly for the charities of the participants’ choice. (Murray’s concept.)
Unfortunately Velo QC will not comply. Murray is aware that this is a manifestation of the terrible sociological problem in QC that has this province being the worst for both charitable giving and volunteerism, north of Mexico.
Murray has decided to put pressure upon Pierrefonds and its mayor to have Velo QC cooperate with charity for several reasons:
1) In 2010 Montreal taxpayers will give not less than $972,000 to Velo QC.
2) The events hurt retailers, does little for tourism and inconveniences tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people.
3) If the participants of similar events throughout the world raise $$ why not those in the worst area for giving/volunteerism in Canada/USA?
4) Pierrefonds Borough Mayor Worth’s portfolio on the Executive Committee includes Velo QC events.
Murray has asked Pierrefonds to follow the lead of Dorval, Kirkland and Hampstead and ban Velo QC events until the participants are invited to raise $$$ for the charities of the participants’ choice. (Laval, DDO, CSL have banned the events due to Velo Quebec’s attitude, and the inconvenience/expense. Longueuil will no longer cooperate with Velo Quebec either.)
Murray knows that inviting the 45,000 Velo QC event participants to raise $$ is in the best interest of the people of Pierrefonds and humanity at large, and welcomes all citizens who welcome cures for diseases, better equipped hospitals, etc., to do what is in their own best interest and demand of Mayor Worth, Mayor Tremblay et al, to finally do as Murray asks!
